Graduated Bottles: Benefits, Features, and How to Use

Just like droppers used to administer medication to a child, there is such a thing as a graduated baby bottle. As the name suggests, this is a bottle with measurement marks on the outside of the container.

The presence of clear and precise markings on the outer wall shows how much liquid can be added.

SUMMARY

What do the measurements on your baby bottle look like?

What do the measurements on your baby bottle look like?

Measurement marks are never placed inside baby bottles during manufacturing. They could trap milk residue and impurities. The inside of your bottle is therefore always perfectly smooth.

The measurements can be in milliliters (ml) or ounces (oz), depending on the model and brand.

The different measurement options for your baby’s bottle

The most common graduated bottles in France feature milliliter markings, often in 10 or 20 ml increments. At Elhée, we offer 3 different bottle sizes:

  • 5 Oz
  • 8 Oz
  • 11 Oz

The daily benefits of a graduated bottle

A graduated bottle offers many advantages! Let’s take a look at them.

Adjusting the amount of formula according to the manufacturer’s recommendations

The markings help measure the exact amount of water and formula powder to add when preparing bottles. This helps ensure your baby receives a balanced diet consistent with the recommendations of formula brands.

Getting a good idea of how much breastmilk is pumped per day

For moms who pump their milk daily and then give it to their baby using a bottle, measurement graduations allow you to accurately monitor the amount of milk expressed. This feature provides peace of mind for many parents, especially for babies who need encouragement at mealtime.

Know the amount of milk your baby drank and report it to your pediatrician

Using a graduated bottle allows you to track and measure the amount of milk your baby has consumed. This information is important for pediatrician visits and helps ensure optimal monitoring of your child’s growth and development.

Knowing when to switch to a larger bottle

The markings also help determine if your baby's bottle needs to be upgraded to a larger one. If you notice the amount of milk your baby drinks is steadily increasing, it might be time to switch to a more suitable model.

How to use a graduated baby bottle?

Before using a graduated bottle, it is recommended to:

  • Thoroughly wash and sterilize the bottle before each use.
  • Fill the bottle with the recommended amount of water, referring to the measurement markings.
  • Add the number of scoops of formula powder as specified by the manufacturer.
  • Gently shake the bottle to mix the formula powder and water thoroughly. For best results, roll the bottle between your palms.
  • Gently warm the bottle in a water bath.
  • Check the temperature of the milk with a thermometer or by dropping a little milk on the inside of your wrist, where the skin is thin and soft.

Where to find graduated baby bottles?

Graduated baby bottles are available at most pharmacies, baby supply stores, and supermarkets. You can also find them online through specialized websites such as ours.

It is strongly recommended to choose bottles that are plastic-free and meet current standards.

Élhée offers graduated medical-grade silicone bottles. 🍼

This ensures there is no risk of plastic microparticles being released into your child’s milk preparation.

  • The measurements on our bottles are marked every 30 units.
  • They start at 30 ml (or 1 ounce, the equivalent US unit, symbol “oz”) for all our bottles. 30 ml is usually equivalent to 1 scoop of formula powder, which is the smallest quantity you can prepare.
  • The measurement scale is discreet so it doesn’t affect the bottle’s design.

In short

In short, the measurement markings on baby bottles are much more than just a practical detail: they are an essential element to ensure your baby gets proper, balanced nutrition according to the manufacturer’s recommendations.

By using a graduated bottle, you’ll have peace of mind knowing you’re giving your child the best conditions to grow up healthy. 😊
